Odell Beckham, Jr. Should Be the First Receiver Taken in 2015 Fantasy Drafts

A day after racking up five catches for 89 yards including a spectacular diving grab, Giants’ wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. revealed he played the season with both hamstrings never fully recovered from injuries that forced him to miss the team’s first four games.

It is exciting to think what a completely healthy Beckham, Jr. could do playing a full 16 games. He still registered 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in only 12 games.beckham 3

The sky is the limit for the extremely talented player out of LSU.  During pregame, he routinely snares footballs out of the air with one hand the way a baseball player grabs a line drive to the side of the body.

Strong athletic genes run in his family. His father played football at LSU from 1989-1992 and was a college roommate of Shaquille O’Neal who happens to be junior’s godfather. It also helps that Beckham, Jr.’s mom ran track at LSU and coaches the sport at the college level.

Beckham, Jr. quickly became the favorite target of quarterback Eli Manning. He had seven 100+ yard games and ended the season with 90+ yards in nine consecutive games tying Michael Irvin’s NFL record. Beckham, Jr. will own the record himself if he goes over 90 yards receiving in his first game next year.

In a week 12 Sunday Night Football game against the Dallas Cowboys, Beckham, Jr. had 10 receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns including a freakish one-handed touchdown catch where he leaped up and was interfered by Brandon Carr making the catch with only three fingers on his right hand falling backwards into the end zone. His jersey from that game is displayed at the Pro Football Hall of Fame based on his spectacular grab.beckham 1

The Giants found a gem drafting Beckham, Jr. with the 12th pick in the 2014 draft. In addition to his amazing leaping ability, Beckham, Jr. has an uncanny knack for finding the seems in a defense and turning to make the catch. He is a rare deep threat who also serves as Manning’s security blanket.

While many can make a case for Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, or Jordy Nelson going ahead of Beckham, Jr. in 2015 fantasy drafts, Beckham, Jr. will put up the best numbers.

Over a full season, his rookie numbers would have been 121 catches for 1,741 yards and 16 touchdowns. Most receivers generally better those numbers in their second year.

Johnson has suffered injuries the last two seasons and Bryant and Nelson play for a team that is well-balanced offensively. Meanwhile, Beckham, Jr. singlehandedly won many owners fantasy championships with his mammoth November and December statistics.

I can realistically see Beckham, Jr. put up 140+ catches for 2000 yards and 20 touchdowns in one of the next three years. Having him on your roster will make you excited for each week’s fantasy matchups. Wouldn’t you rather have his numbers in your lineup rather than against you?

And that’s as I see it.

I can see him going first round in many drafts which is going to mess with a lot the “old way of thinking” for fantasy drafts.

I’m hoping to see your Josh Gordon take in the coming days.
