Villa Makes Immediate Impact with NYCFC

David Villa scored the first ever goal for New York City FC of Major League Soccer in a 2-0 exhibition match against St. Mirren of the Scottish Premiership. The match was played in Manchester, England as Manchester City is part owners of the team along with the New York Yankees. Both clubs combined to pay a 100 million expansion fee to allow NYCFC to join MLS.villa2

The Spanish international was one of NYCFC’s designated players along with English midfielder, Frank Lampard, who is currently on loan to Manchester City until the summer. lampard

Despite playing only the first half, Villa showed the kind of impact he will have in MLS. In addition to scoring his club’s first goal, Villa created many scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates playing as a withdrawn striker.

When Lampard returns from his loan, he will form a very potent 1-2 combination with Villa. Add in the recently signed Mix Diskerud, who played for the United States in last summer’s World Cup,  diskerud2and NYCFC has a strong nucleus and should be able to compete for a playoff spot in their inaugural season.

And that’s… as I see it!
