Brasilian Ronaldo Curbs Rumors of a Comeback

Ronaldo Nazario, the Brasilian Ronaldo, may have disappointed soccer fans on Thursday when he stated he will not be making a comeback with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL.

In December 2014, Ronaldo became part owner of the Strikers with three fellow Brasilians and seemed to imply he would consider coming out of retirement.

“I will need to lose some weight. I would need to get in good shape, and maybe if we get to the final and train, they would ask me to play. But first I will need to be in shape.”

Yes, the weight. In his prime, Ronaldo was one of the best strikers of all-time and was known for his speed and technical ability. Since he retired in 2011, the 38 year old Ronaldo has packed on the pounds and looks very different from his fit stature that contributed to him being named a three-time FIFA Player of the Year. He held the record for Most World Cup goals with 15 until the 2014 World Cup when long-time German star Miroslav Klose passed him with 16 World Cup goals.Ronaldo

Once the NASL season begins for the Strikers against the New York Cosmos on April 4, the urge to compete may motivate Ronaldo to train and get back in shape. Being around the players and watching them train and compete in matches may be too much for “the phenomenon” to not strap on the boots once again and hit the pitch for a comeback.

And that’s…as I see it!
