According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Swedish soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic applied for a long-term visa for the United States when he visited the U.S. Embassy in Paris on March 19. This move has many speculating on whether this means the 33 year-old Ibrahimovic could be making a move to MLS after his Paris Saint-Germain contract expires after the 2016 season.
Ibrahimovic has admired the success the recently retired Thierry Henry had with the New York Red Bulls and has implied a possible move to MLS to end his career. Henry and Ibrahimovic played together on Barcelona before Henry came to MLS.
When discussing MLS as an option, Ibrahimovic had this to say.
“It’s a question a lot of journalists ask me. I still have two years on my contract. Let’s see what state I’m in at that time, and if the opportunity is still there. I will really think about it, I find the American challenge really interesting, because my friend Thierry Henry played there and he was fantastic.”
Count me among the many soccer fans who would love to see Ibrahimovic end his career in MLS. He is a proven striker who knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. He would definitely bring the same excitement Brasil’s Kaka, Italy’s Sebastian Giovinco, and Spain’s David Villa have added in the first month of the 2015 MLS season.
And that’s as I see it!
